Pratibha Karanji and Kalotsav for the 2025–26 academic year in Karnataka — a celebration of scholastic, literary, and cultural talent across all school levels.

Pratibha Karanji

1. Overview & Purpose

Organized by Karnataka’s Department of School Education, Pratibha Karanji is a multi-tiered literary and cultural talent contest. It spans from the primary to high school level, fostering creativity in areas such as reading, elocution, creative writing, art, mimicry, classical music, dance, and folk performances  

2. Structure & Progression

Primary (Std 1–7): Students participate in individual events like poetry recitation (in multiple languages), short music, storytelling, drawing, clay modeling, and group folk dances or quizzes.

High School (Std 8–12): The emphasis shifts to more advanced categories classical/folk music, Bharatnatyam, mimicry, rangoli, ghazal, comedy, group performances, etc.  

Competitions begin at the school level, advancing through cluster, taluk, district, and culminate at the state level.

3. Core Rules

Students may only enter a limited number of events (e.g max 2 individual + 1 group for Std 1–7; 1 individual for older classes).

Competitions require minimum entries (e.g., at least five participants per event), and judges must be impartial professionals or retired local artists  .

Kalotsav

1. Definition & Scope

Kalotsav is the counterpart for secondary, senior secondary, and pre-university students—an elevated form of Pratibha Karanji focused on performing arts: classical, folk, tribal, music, dance, theater, and visual arts.

2. Competition Levels

Similar to Pratibha Karanji, Kalotsav progresses across school → cluster → taluk → district → state. Students qualifying at lower levels represent their schools/regions at higher echelons  .

3. Event Categories

Kalotsav features both individual (classical vocals, instrumental music, solo dance, drama, visual art) and group (folk dance, tribal performances, group drama, choirs) events. The precise categories often mirror the talent scheme of Pratibha Karanji.
